When we were in Yogjakarta we saw a scooter that was piled high with bird cages traveling down the road. Yes, there were birds in the cages - this picture was taken while driving, but you get the idea.

Jogyakarta - Borobudur
We spent last week in Jakarta, and flew to Jogyakarta (Central Java) for the weekend. We saw Borobudur (ancient Buddhist temple) and stayed at a charming boutique hotel called the Dusun Jogya Village Inn. Our trip was very quick - arriving Friday night - leaving Sunday morning, but it will always be one of our highlights of living here. We'll take you all there when you come to visit.
Our New Home In Balikpapan
We live in a compound between the airport and Rock's office (which is across from Klandisan Market). Google Earth has really clear images of this part of town, since the airport is nearby. Our house has 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, is painted entirely white inside and out and has shiny white tile everywhere. It is minimally furnished, so we watch TV from a mattress we drug from one of the bedrooms (time to let the moths out?). The Vilabeta Complex consists of about 40 other residences and several apartment buildings, a club house with a 25 meter swimming pool, tennis courts, basketball court, soccer field and many other amenities. It was built in the late 60's - early 70's, and must have very beautiful when new. It is still nice, but a little worn with age and lack of upkeep. We have snakes and monitor lizards here, and who knows what else. We did find a rather large spider in the living room the other day. Welcome to our home!
